Celeron or Pentium 4?????

Thread Starter
I built a gaming pc and was looking to overclock my graphics card. Right now it has a Celeron D 3.20ghz processor. My motherboard can support Pentium 4 processors.
Should I stick with the one I have or would it be worth it to get the Pentium 4?

Get a P4. That's a no brainer, but i will warn you, Prescott cores tend to get hot. Why the P4 over the Celeron? More cache, and that's a must with gaming.

i had one of these in my 1st rig....and i loved it. couldnt oc it though because i was on a stock intel board
i found that it performed very well for everything i do....even the 3d animation using Maya and softimage XSI(which are very cpu intensive)

just seen thats it one of the newer celerons(sk775?)...sorry!

Yeah Prescott's do get very hot. I'd not bother with either. Go Allendale or Conroe.

But getting back to the question - P4, without a doubt - but make sure you stick some good cooling on it.

I will also agree with the fellas, a Pentium 4 is better than the Celeron.

But I'd say, get a Pentium 4 Nortwood 3.20ghz minimum or the 3.40ghz should be even better.

Here's a few: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pentium-4-IV-P4-...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PENTIUM-4-P4...QQcmdZViewItem

"IF" I were to go back to socket 478? I'd w/o a doubt go with a Nortwood CPU instead of a Prescott.

What is the model of that GIGABYTE board of yours?

I need to know what chipset it has.

All the box says is Gigabyte P4 Titan series.
Then it says supports Intel 90NM LGA775 processor.

It says on the directions- VIA P4M800-chipset.
