Christmas upgrades!

Thread Starter
Ok I have around ~$550-600 roughly to spend on upgrades. I wish to upgrade to C2D rig. I need a CPU, MOBO, RAM, GPU. Here is what I have come up with. Please tell me what yall think or what I should change.

CPU - C2D e6400 - $189.00
MOBO - P965 S3 - $124.99
RAM - 1GB Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2-800 - $143.99
GPU - BFG 7600gt - $143.99 ( $78.99 after $65 rebate )

With the MOBO that I have picked out could I use my IDE hdd and IDE cd drive together? Will there be a performance hit if I can do that?

Thanks for the help!

well for now, I'd tell you to wait since intel is supposedly doing price drops on the C2Ds. For the mobo though, might try the BioForce TForce965P. it's about 20 bucks cheaper and the pook is getting some great OCs out of it.

Some people just dont want to spend the money. But I'd recommend another gig of ram and a nicer GPU also if you have the cash.

It's not worth waiting for the price drops, unless they are confirmed and have an actual date of cuts. (Which doesn't normally surface until something better comes out, like AM2 price cuts) Are you really going to wait 4+ months to save 50 bucks on that Conroe you could have had a while ago?

Anyways, as for the memory, I would get This for now, and match it later down the road.

That motherboard supports what your asking it to do, I like the motherboard alot myself, the cpu is great but I'd get 2gb of ram and save up on a better vga.
