The decline of consoles? Why PC? - Page 3

The way I see it:

Consoles are easy. Buy em, stick the game in, connect all your controllers, play.

PC: more expensive, big, but better quality.

So for people (like me) who would buy a desktop because they don't need the portability of a laptop the £££ on a console would be better spent on a better GPU+CPU. Most (teenagers) have laptops though for portability, so can't do this. Consoles will not die, but the latest gen means games wiull be optimised for lots of cores and so will play a lot better on PC.

Cheap games
Controller support (if wanted) on most games
Best graphics
Huge selection of games, don't loose when change hardware

I can see PC gaming getting even more traction this generation as the consoles are well behind current high end computers.

Have a look at the screenshot thread.

You still forget the initial cost of buying the PC... few people look that far ahead.

Don't get me wrong, it would be brilliant if eveyone switched and games were optimised for PCs, but realistically I don't see that happening any time soon.

Consoles still have their place for gaming though. I mean sure you can toss a 360 controller into the PC and play some games but at the same time there's a wider variety of games on consoles that still are somewhat lacking in PC.

The whole "It looks fare better" comment holds little meaning when you are really playing the game just to have fun.
Like for me, I played Killzone 1 2 and 3 and even though their graphics aren't like 1080p FXAA SweetFX Texture mod and tessellation, I still highly enjoyed those games for the story.
HELL i played Bioshock Infinite on my 4850 before I got this 7790 and I could only play at 720p with a good number of settings turned down. I still enjoyed the game greatly because of the story and mechanics.

At what some of you quality extremists are saying is that the retro indie games are crap due to the graphics... Yet the games were made with the old 8bit style in mind and people still highly enjoy them.

Just because something doesn't look better than the PC doesn't mean it's going to die when to get pretty good quality as is for $400, it's pretty much a steal with the ability to record and stream without tanking the FPS like it can on PC.

Also to take not of, Engine code rework >>>>> Brute force hardware.

Personally, i like both, and i would most likely be getting a PS4 (Even though i have a gaming setup, that's worth 3,500$) tongue.gif. I like the raw excessive performance of a well geared gaming PC, but i also like the simplicity of a console.

I can't let my clumsy friends play games with my PC when they come over. Lord knows what would happen if i left them for an hour by themselves axesmiley.png, so a console will give me less heart troubles.

PC games do generally look better if people have the hardware to play it at max settings, and even if you are playing it on an older graphics card you can still play it. With computers it is possible to upgrade your hardware and still be able to play older games, where as with consoles you can't play ps3 games on a ps2 you have to upgrade the whole system and sometimes they don't even allow backwards compatibility frown.gif.

I agree with this statement about old school games, but for newer games like crysis3, far cry 3, etc. i think the developers want people to play it with max settings the way it was meant to be played. 8bit games were limited to the power of the hardware and was the best people could do at the time.

At the same time though, Devs would also like more people to play their games regardless of the system and settings they play on. More people to share the enjoyment as well as more money to the devs.thumb.gif

Yeah, but there's nothing like playing an old-school game. I still have fond memories of GBA Pokemon and 2D games like mario and Rayman. And who can forget sonic.gif ?
