Thoughts on Microsoft/Nokia deal?

Thread Starter
Just curious to see the some opinions.

I love MS and Nokia, and really hope the pairing goes well so I can jump off the iOS ship; at the same time - the Vuze vs. iPod didn't go too well, and now they have Android to contend with in this new medium, too. Although I do suspect they're trying to blend some unique functionality with Skype, but I can't figure out what (yet, I haven't put much time into thinking about it at this stage).

Just wondering what others thoughts are? Expectations or ideas of where/how this could go?

I really hope Microsoft doesn't delete the Nokia brand.

I and many others, esp in countries outside of the US, love the Nokia brand because it stands for durability (those indestructible phones), signal strength (bars where others got none), and quality (good design, sturdy buttons etc)

Microsoft on the other hand, is not a "cool" brand and is know for viruses, BSODs, etc :p

I really hoped Nokia would have picked android. They have always made great devices. Their new phones, speaking from a hardware standpoint is beautiful. Only the HTC One even comes close, in terms of hardware beauty.

It is a shame that they have associated themselves with MS. Windows on phones have always been a disaster. Remember the days right before iOS and android came out? Samsung Omnia, my ex had one. What a nightmare that was.

I think windows phone has left everyone in bad taste, so much so that most are not willing to give them a chance. It really doesn't help them at all to have the ugliest UI out of any phone OS currently. I mean...various sized color rectangles? I'm surprised fisher price hasn't sued them.

Nokia sales would go through the roof if they sold android. Samsung would not be king of the hill. They are only where they are now because they spend so much on marketing. I honestly don't like their phones. The hardware is unimaginative, the UI is so plain and feels too safe. As if their designers were told to hold back, just in case some people don't like it. Although I suspect they did that because they want iOS users to migrate over as easy as possible. While you have HTC doing amazing UI designs, I mean have you guys/gals used a HTC One? That UI looks so modern, so sleek. While the samsung UI seems like it's meant for the mentally challenged.

Nokia would never leave MS because MS is throwing money at them. Too bad, nokia took the easy route this round. I just hope it won't come back to bite them in the rear end later, as I don't see windows phone adoption going anywhere but down. Look at blackberry, after years of delay to restructure they've essentially thrown in the towel.
