Is this 7970 a good deal?

I'm considering getting 2 of these to upgrade from my single 6970. Is this a good deal? I have no experience with Gigabyte cards, how is the build quality and warranty with them?

I'm not sure if I should get 79x0 cards while stores are trying to get rid of them or just wait for the new ati cards. Opinions? Keep in mind that I'm from Canada when considering the price.

afaik, that windforce is voltage locked. if you want to oc it might not let you go far. here is my 7950 oc'ed to 7970 GHz speed and i7 HT off . . .

compare it to your rig.

edit: if you'll get 2, it would really help to oc your chip at least to 4.5GHz.

Ya my 2500k is already at 4.5GHz, I've never tried to push it higher. I figured its wasn't a big deal that the card is voltage locked because I'm assuming that if I had 2 cards running at high oc then I would run into cooling problems. Not planning to buy any other cooling solutions.

any opinions on Gigabyte?

gigabyte windforce has one of the best coolers but i would imagine the top card will run warmer than the lower one in xfire. i had the 7950 windforce and i had to check the first time if the fans were running. it was dead silent at idle or even in gaming. benching were i had to raise the fan speed, the fans got loud. anything above 55% imo with those size fans will be loud.

other than the blue pcb, i like the workmanship of my 7950 winforce rev 1.

edit: imo, your 6970 is still a very strong card. i'd wait it out. it is up to you.

Great card. Runs cool with its triple fan solution even without a VRM heatsink. Only turnoff is voltage lockdown.

i believe this 7970 has heatsinks on the vrms. the 7950 rev2 also has heatsinks on them.

I would recommend waiting for hawaii. a single Hawaii with voltage overclocking should get quite close to HD 7970 CF. overclocking both HD 7970 cards on air is going to be limited due to heat and cooling concerns.
