How to test a new HDD

I am running Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows right now, the extended test, for a new HDD I just got from Amazon. Is this the only test I need to run? How many times?

I'm getting a Seagate soon.. so I'd like to know how to test a hard drive as well. Never done that before with a new drive, but I can understand why its a great idea to do that. I was just thinking earlier today that I'd like to know how to do it before I order it so I'm prepared.... instead of figuring out how to do it afterwards, finding out its bad, and missing the return deadline then having to go through Seagate if it is bad. Good turn of luck running into this topic. biggrin.gif

Indeed.

And it shouldn't matter if it's unallocated space while running the test, right?
