Dual monitors and AMD driver - Page 2

Got my temps dropped about 10c. OC is stable, no artifacts. Heck it only got to 68c in heaven benchmark. I guess new drivers have changed how my OC needs are.

73c isn't really an issue for graphics cards. They're made to handle 85+ usually without any problems.

Not the 7970. See - http://www.overclock.net/t/1196856/official-amd-radeon-hd-7950-7970-7990-owners-thread/15510

People saying its got temp limits, and its exactly what I'm getting. Not an issue because I got my temps under 70c easily now. I wonder how low I can get the voltage. My card does 1070/1400 on the lightning bios @ 1.13v. I might have it way too high for 1200/1600. But my GPU is now back and forth between 45 - 47c. Much more livable.

mmk running 500/800 clocks @ 1v. Going to see how it does. There cannot be any legit reason it needs full mem clock running for 2 monitors.

My clocks are fluctuating while using flash. Is this bad? HW accel is off.

It doesn't seem to cause issue but idk if it could hurt in the long run. The 2D profile is set to 500/800 and its been working smoothly except for running flash on Firefox. It was also having some massive memory leak go crazy but I fixed that for the most part.

Not familiar with AMD CPUs, but if it has an iGPU you could plug one of your monitors in it. It's what I did with my dual monitor setup so now my idle clocks are the proper 300/150/.8v.

Prior to that though there was a trick in AB to force 500/150/.95v. What I did was set a profile in AB for exactly stock clocks + voltage. I'd set a key for it and whenever I'm on the desktop I hit that key for lower clocks.

I believe if your clocks are OC'd in MSI AB and you hit reset it will force lower clocks while in the desktop. Not sure if this works for everyone's card though since I have the sapphire 950mhz 7950 edition ( It's the one with a black 7970 pcb ). Not sure if it matters but I'm still using the 2.2.1 version of MSI AB due to fear of later versions fixing this.

Only AMD APU has IGPU on it. This is a normal CPU in my rig. Its just my 7970 is trying to idle from the 500mhz clock which it probably needs for the dual monitors. As soon as I can reboot my PC I'm turning off powerplay. Maybe that will fix it.

Try the MSI AB trick I mentioned in my post.
