Will I be able to use the product key off of a newly purchased Windows 7?

Thread Starter
I used my friends Windows 7 home premium 64 bit hard copy disc to install windows on my new rig and was going to use my other friend's product key for it (since he had installed on only one computer). The problem is that the product key he had belongs to a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and neither one of them have the Home Premium key to give me. My question is: if I buy a brand new Windows 7 64 bit OS (which, admittedly, I should have done in the first place) will I be able to use the product key from that purchased disc on my already installed Windows 7 operating system without re-installing everything? Thanks guys, I hope my first post went to the right forum section.

I think you have to reinstall it to be 100% legal...there are programs out there that will help you change the product key but IDK if I can even discuss that here without violating the TOS of the site. I think it should be ok to do that if you are using the key you purchased from MS but i'm sure there are people who do not...

If I were unsure of what to do I would prob just reinstall so I didn't have to worry about it.
