Was thinkin about changing from my old x58-rig to the new 4930k cpu but the performance gain doesen't seem worth the money. This far they do not seem to overclock better than my w3680 Xeon so what's the point?
It is well known that the x58-chipset only have Sata2 controller and the onboard Marvell Sata3 offers almost the same performance as the Intel Sata2 does.
Prestent day I have 2 Corsair Force GT 120gb @ raid 0 attached to the Intel controller and the performance is no way near what modern controllers offer. Crystal Diskmark says about 300 points. Sequential read about 350 mb/s and write about 250 mb/s.
Been thinkin about getting a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb disk and use the Samsung Rapid SW instead of the Corsairs. Just wondering if there will be any performance gain at all?
Or should I get a controller card supporting Sata3 for my x58 Sabertooth? Will there be any noticable performance increase?
