rig upgrade and overclocking advice

Thread Starter
hello everyone,
i am upgrading my rig which will primarily be used for gaming, after effects, premeire pro and cinema 4d...here is what i have set in my mind..

i7 4770k
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H
MSI GTX 670
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 2x8GB 1600MHZ RAM
128GB CRUCIAL M4
CORSAIR TX-750W
THERMALTAKE FRIO CPU COOLER
CHEAP THERMALTAKE CASING
......
i am opting for the i7 because the i5's dont support ht and even though video games dont need ht,future games should support it..and the video editing area gets a boost from ht...and i want to get the gtx 670,because it performs on par with the 7970 and gtx 680 when overclcoked..and the quadro cards cost too much and suck for gaming...so would this rig be future proof?...and though i am willing to overclock,i have heard that overclcoking reduces the life-span of the hardware..now i don't want to reach 7ghz on the i7 and crazy 3d mark scores on the gtx 670...i just want to do normal overclock with no voltage change or light voltage change which is fine for 24/7 usage and wont degrade my hardware...so would such overclock harm the life span of the hardware?..i mean if the i7 and 670 were to last for 7 more years without overclock, would they last 3-4 years with overclock?..i have done a fair amount of research on overclocking and i am really into overclocking..i mean this forum is meant for avid overclockers..but when it comes down to my money and hardware,i get a little skeptic and stingy..really in need of some advice,,,

thanks in advance

Yes that computer will last you a long time. Given the specs of the new consoles I don't see there being a huge leap in hardware requirements over the next couple years. Hardware has been outpacing software for a while so you should be fine with your other software tools as well.

As for overclocking, it's a great way to eek a bit more out of your pc. It's also super fun. As long as you keep the temps under control and the voltage within limits there is negligible degradation. I've overclocked everything I've ever owned and all have lived for years without issues or noticeable change in overclockablility.

very nice rig,,,should be good for years,,as far as overclocking,,,,you wont kill the lifespan as long as you have good temps,,,i took my 3570k to 4.9 ghz,,,,with a 88.c coretemp under load,,so I backed it down to 4.6,,,with a 60.c coretemp,,,much better,,,its the heat that kills them,,,
