Building my 1155 / i5-2550k Rig

I am just now getting around to building my latest gaming rig, it's an AsRock Z77 Extreme i5-2550k combo.

I just recently was updating myself on the specs of the 2550k. I wasn't aware it had such a restriction/bottleneck on the memory speed (claims 1333 as highest,) I am sure I can do some O/C with the Z77, but it will be working my CPU harder.

I initially was going to get an Radeon HD 7870 card. However this build is now a few generations old, and I probably will be building a new unit 3 years from now.

Would it be foolish to put in a 7870 or even 7900 series card with this older generation setup? I know 9000 series is coming up just around the corner, but I am sure it will not be as efficient on this build to be worth the money.

I see no reason to not get the 7950 for your build.
