Lenovo B590 can't boot from secondary hard drive

I replaced the DVD drive with another hard disc with Linux installed on it (standard BIOS boot), and under Windows the disc is detected just fine, but for some reason it doesn't show up in UEFI settings or boot device selection. I've disabled secure boot and enabled legacy boot, even disabled UEFI boot altogether but I haven't managed to boot Linux. Anyone know what to do?

EDIT: I also tried pulling out the windows drive, which did nothing, and then putting the Linux drive in the normal HDD slot, and it works... but I'd like both systems to be bootable.

Now I've got the original (Windows) drive in the DVD slot and the Linux drive in the primary, and it works fine... seems as though legacy boot only works for hard drives in the normal HD bay. Weird.
