2560x1440 possible over HDMI on Metabox W230ST by Clevo?

Thread Starter
I'm considering building the following notebook the only reason I am hesitating is because I have a new monitor with 2560x1440 resolution and I would hate it if the notebook that I get doesn't support that.

So does the Metabox W230ST by Clevo support this? I've attached an image with the laptop specs.

Thanks!

Check out this article:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/2560x1440-or-2560x1600-via-HDMI.92840.0.html

basically the synopsis is: yes you SHOULD be able to do it, but its not 100% guaranteed. If you absolutely must have 2560 x 1440 @ 60hz guaranteed then you'll need a notebook with display port or DL DVI on it.

Mhm...

What if I get a USB3 to DP/DVI, would it still use the GTX 765 when playing games or would it use the card on which the monitor the game is played on?

Nope, those things have an integrated 2D display adapter that completely bypasses the internal GPU.

OK, I figured something like that..

According to the specs, both GTX 765 and the onboard Intel HD 4600 should be able to output 2560x1440 just fine. Any my monitor PB278Q should be able to handle that resolution via HDMI as well.

So question is, what could mess this up? Stuff are rarely as good in real life as on paper smile.gif

The problem is that HDMI 1.0 only really supported upto 1080p, while you need HDMI 1.3 to supported higher resolutions. Both the HDMI output, the cable and the HDMI input on the monitor need to support HDMI 1.3+ for it all to work. I just tested the HDMI output on my Alienware m17xr3 and it only supported upto 1920*1080 on my Dell U2713HM (2560*1440), while the HDMI output on my desktop's GTX780 supports any resolution with the same cable.

The spec sheet here (random google result) - http://www.eng.mobilator.pl/notebook--clevo-w230st-v.0.1-kadlubek-print-85951.html - indicates that the Clevo has a version 1.4a HDMI output, so -as long as- the monitor has at least a version 1.3 input and you get a 1.3+ cable you should be ok. Which monitor do you have?

I have the Asus PB278Q, according to the box it supports the resolution over both HDMI and DisplayPort. I tried a DisplayPort to HDMI where the HDMI cable was inserted into the monitor and that worked. So hopefully the specs for the W230ST is correct and I can go ahead and order!
