But this is just a part of Intel killing the desktop and enthusiast market. They want enthusiast desktops to be as unexciting as possible while removing features and disappointing people. This way, sales go down and they can turn to the business-folks and go, "look at how bad enthusiast sales are doing!"
It's all a part of getting out of the "lol my Nehalem is still good and it's 5 years old!" (which it is) and into the "my cell phone is one year old, it's old and sucky I need a new one!" market.
Everyone wants into this market. MS, Intel, AMD, Samsung, etc. It's where the money is.
What are they supposed to do? Drop prices with the fab advancements and die size decreases? And at the same time force AMD to sell their CPUs for a loss?
At the very least they're selling new stuff...
I was just pointing out that Intel's margins on i3 have to be much, much better than AMD's. People buy Intel more than AMD so Intel has no reason to lower their prices at all. If anything they could probably raise them and still sell a ton of CPUs.
Even 4770k is only around 177mm^2. If you want to do some really fuzzy math, FX 8350 is nearly twice as big of a die. And FX 8350 sells for about half.
So in comparison to AMD, Intel is making tons of money on their chips. And don't get me started on GT3e Haswell. $600 for a die under 200mm^2. That is more than a 550mm^2 Nvidia chip. All wafers are the same size.
Yeah, Intel could lower their prices, but they have no reason to. People still prefer Intel over alternatives quite heavily (and I'm even talking situations like ARM Chromebook vs Intel Laptop, not just AMD vs Intel). Everyone I know who purchased an ARM tablet considers it a useless toy. I've even had my parents ask if I could install Windows on their Samsung Android tablet so they could use all the programs they're used to. My other friend called his iPad a worthless toy.
Those people will go back to Intel powered something, no doubt about it.

He's enjoying the performance of his FX-9590.... oh wait, no he isn't.
He didn't even bother putting out a review out for it.
I was hoping to see that guy rage over the new box, but apparently he doesn't care about the looks, only the size of the package. I guess you can say he's a......
