I'd give it a couple of years till something more streamlined becomes the norm.
Mini USB was used in so many devices. Still is kinda and now many portable devices, not just phones, use micro USB. While I'm not an advocate of proprietary connectors. The Lightning connector was really well done. Can be used on either side and slim. No need to worry about which way it's being inserted. Too bad it's still limited to USB 2.0.
Years back Nokia was working with other companies to create a universal connector for phones and make it a standard. I'm glad they did just because some people will upgrade phones like they change underwear.

That's part of why they are upgrading to USB 3. The extra power that it will provide. My Galaxy Tab 2.0 takes hours to charge with a 2.1a charger.
Guys, I don't think they are saying this is a completely new connector. I'm sure many people are already familiar with it, it's just saying that this is going to be used for other devices now.Edited by aksthem1 - 9/7/13 at 7:41pm
