they only gold plate the contacts at the end so it doesnt oxidize, oxidization makes the contact unable to conduct thus fail as a cable.

having gold inside the cable itself is retarded fail, if absolute best conductivity is required then oxygen free silver inside a sealed cable is the best it goes but copper does just fine
