Help me with a 1300$ build

Hi,

I might be looking for a new rig and my budget is 1300$ including tax & shipping. I live in Canada.

Cheers :thumb:

I'd like an ATX build. PSU need to be at least semi-modular.

OP you might be able to squeeze a 780 video card in there if you go AMD on the cpu and save some money

Hmm true that. I'll consider a 8350 build; I really dont have any brand preference.

Motherboard should be a bit cheaper too on AMD side.

What games do you plan on playing OP? If its battlefield then get the 8350 for sure. In the game engine AMDs shine

(Disclaimer: I'm using 'Murican prices)

If you do go AMD octacore, I would not cheap out on the motherboard. That's arguably the most important part of a build and those CPUs will suck up electricity and spit out heat. If you don't have a good 8+2 or better motherboard, you'll probably see throttling if you overclock.

The SSD is great for the price (though a 250GB drive is under $170), but I'd go with a 7200.14 Seagate Barracuda or WD10EZEX for the HDD. Both are single-platter 1TB drives and approach 200MB/s sequential speeds.

What resolution are you going to use? I'm assuming this is for gaming? If it's 1080p, crossfired 7800s will probably be the best bang for your buck, but it's also a dual-GPU solution and many would prefer not to do that. Still, $260 (after rebate) for a pair of 2GB 7850s gets you 7970 GHz performance for 1080p at an awesome price. 760s and 670s are about the same performance-wise but are up to $100 more each.

7950s are really cheap right now (sub-$200 in some cases) and will drop once the 9000 series comes out. That would be a better option for 1440p. But again, multiple GPUs aren't always better, so a 7970 or 770 would also work well.
