How safe is this?

Thread Starter
I consider my self a noob at OCing in general, at least as far as experience is considered, but I have done my fair share of thread and magazine reading over the past couple months.

After reading up on NVidia's Auto-Overclocking feature, I decided to give it a try on my EVGA 7600GT KO.

I pressed the Detect Optimal Frequencies button and it took my core clock frequency from 580 to 668 and my memory clock frequency from 1.5 ghz to 1.67 ghz.

When I check my temperature readings they seem to be steady at 45*C-46*C.

My ambient room temps are 70*F-72*F.

Since I auto-overclocked my card, how stable is it, and how high should my temps be?

Those temps are pretty good from what I can tell; it should be stable enough.

For a graphics card that's REALLY good. They usually run hotter than CPU's.

Those are probably idle temps - check your load temps. For a GPU you don't really need to worry till you start pushing boiling temps

How do I test load temps on a gfx card?

Also, how do I see temps on my older FX 5200? The temperature thing isnt showing up in the Nvidia control panel.

i have the xfx 7600gt ,
my temps are idle 38 ,
load 48 ,
use ati tool to check for artifacts as well as monitor your temps .
run 3dmark 05 , that should warm up your card some .
my card is 660 core / 860 memory .
i used coolbits to overclock , and ati tool to check for artifacts .
running great .
good luck there ,
cheers .

How did you get from 580 to 668? I don't understand.

Or are you using a different fan and hs on your card, because my cards core is 550, and I was only able to get it to 590, before it wouldnt work.

I have the stock cooler, I don't know. I just pressed the button and thats what it took me to.

Littlejohn: What does the 860 mean? My memory says 1.67 ghz. Do I divide that by half or something?
