Which part is causing my PC to crash? - Page 4

You can try running memtest86+ from disc to test your ram, run a chkdsk to check for hdd errors, run an sfc /scannow from cmd to check for system file issues. These are some great free or built-in tools.

Like I mentioned in my last post it seems like you may have some serious driver and system file corruption which usually isn't worth the hassle of trying to fix. At that point you should probably just reformat and start from scratch with all new software and drivers.

I think you're right. I'm getting my friend to burn off a Ubuntu Live CD and we'll see if booting into that yields the same problems. In the meantime, I did finally get around to testing the PSU. I stuck a digital multmeter into one of the molex 12V sockets and played around on Youtube until I got a lockup (which lasted about 10 seconds accompanied by an awful buzzing/stuttering noise from the speakers) but the voltage reading didn't drop or change at all, so I can rule that out. Sometimes when these lockups happen you can hear a low-pitched but audible coil buzz from the GPU.
