No, this will not work. In order to connect one PC directly into another one, you would need a crossover cable (special kind of ethernet cable where the transmit and receive wires are crossed.) The NICs in PCs don't know how to talk to other PCs, only to devices of a different type (router, switch...). You're best bet would be to plug the two PCs either into your router, or get a cheap switch to connect them.

It doesn't matter the speed of the NIC (gigabit, fast ethernet). PC cards don't know how to talk to each other properly.
