Catalyst issues/questions.

Thread Starter
A customer sent me his PC for an update -- He deployed last week so, I'm trying to get this done for his Wife, asap.

I threw in a new card and PSU for him...A 3gb 7950 and a TX 850.

He WAS running an EVGA Nvidia 560...and DID have Nvidia drivers installed.

First thing I did was download the new drivers. Then I removed the Nvidia drivers in safe mode, Sweeped them - Anything with a Nvidia tag was removed. Turned the PC off. Installed the Gigabyte. Turned the PC on. Safe mode again. Installed the new drivers. No issues at all. Restarted the PC.

Performance dropped drastically. Actually, it tanked.

This is the PC:

ASRock 990FX Extreme9
AMD FX-8350
GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950
Corsair TX 850
Corsair Vengeance 8gb CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10
Windows 7 Pro 64

I can't seem to get catalyst to work.

Ran a 3dmark just to verify, total garbage compared to the same exact builds.

Checked the bios, ran an AIDA check, 100% good to go. Did a stress test to make sure CPU wasn't dead or ram -- Ram cleared Memtest with ease and no reported errors on the CPU.

I've narrowed this down to what I believe to be a Driver-related issue.

I'm downloading the entire suite but, it's not actually installing the suite, it's just installing the driver.

I say this because I cannot actually access and/or find the suite at all, after downloading/installing.

To be clear...This is what I'm downloading and installing: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

However, again, even after a restart, there is no suite, just driver acknowledgement.

The driver is showing up in Driver Manager but, the suite, is nowhere to be found on the entire PC.

I haven't used Catalyst in @ a year -- 6990's were my last foray and definitely didn't have these issues, then.

Am I doing this wrong? Something I'm missing?

Thanks guys.

Hey Masked. I recently built a PC for my friend, brand new install with a MSI 7950 (fresh Windows installation). I was having a very similar issue with the 13.4 driver release. Not sure why but after three attempts I gave up.

Formatted the SSD, installed Windows again and then used the 12.10 driver package. That one installed without issue and I called it good at that point.

Almost forgot - Windows 7 Pro OS.

As a test it would be interesting to see if the AMD Catalyst Uninstall Utility detects any AMD installation other than the driver. You can find the Uninstall Utility here;
