My PC crashes randomly

Thread Starter
I reinstalled Windows 7 64bit and I updated everything. I used the same drivers I used before, which for 5 months worked perfectly. However, after reinstalling my Windows, my PC crashed and the monitor powered off. I pressed the reset button, but it would not reset. I had to hard-power it off. The crash occurs after 5min using Windows. I was not running any intensive programs, it was just idling.

I only used drivers from ASUS and Windows update, no other 3rd party drivers were installed.

I reinstalled my Windows again and it is working fine.

What could of caused this? Is it a sign that my motherboard or graphics card is dying?

Intel 3770K 3.5Ghz
16GB XMS 3 Corsair Ram
Sapphire AMD HD 7950 3GB
ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard
Samsung SSD 128GB

Samsung Blu Ray drive

Possibly a corrupt driver installation or corrupt Windows Update. Either way, if your PC is running without issue since the fresh installation of Windows I wouldn't concern myself with it.

For peace of mind you might want to run a few stress tests to rule out any potential hardware issues with the PC running under a heavy load.

I'd recommend;

Memtest 86+
Run this test for eight to ten hours

OCCT or Prime95
If running OCCT run medium test for 2 hours
If running Prime95 run blend test for 8 hours

3DMark or Uningine Heaven/Valley

If all those pass, fire up your favorite game and thrash the whole system for a couple hours.

If it doesn't lock up or shut down you should be good to go.

Best of luck.

I tested using Prime95 and Intel Diagnostic Stress Tool and it did not crash. I played GTA 4 for 5 hours straight with very high settings. It played fine. I tested using Memtest 86+ for around 4 hours and it didn't find any errors.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it then. Unless it starts happening again..............
