[WCCF] Possible hidden volcanic islands gpu in xbox one chip - Page 3

A couple other points people aren't considering:

1. Why would the Xbox One have both an integrated GPU and a discrete GPU? In battery-powered mobile devices this makes sense because of power-saving graphics switching on the fly. If the X1 was battery-powered, then it would make sense having a weaker iGPU to handle the dashboard when not gaming (which would be even less frequent than the Xbox 360, as evidence by the leaked dashboard video that shows games still running even while you are using the dashboard. But the Xbox One is always plugged into an outlet, so power savings is MUCH less significant. Also, if they wanted the dashboard to be handled by an iGPU, they could have gone with something much less expensive than a HD7790.

2. The CPU of the X1 is a Jaguar part running at 1.75Mhz. Think about that. Paired with a VI GPU that has over 2000 SPs? The CPU would be a massive bottleneck to a GPU like that.

MS will pull the ultimate troll on Sony if this is true.

That said, I HIGHLY doubt it's true.

The only think I can think is for HSA, so the integrated gpu will have physics etc offloaded to it, while the dgpu will process graphics. However I don't believe this, ms would mention this graphical power, the raw performance benefit of the ps4 is one of the main factors that turned people from xbone, along with price/privacy issues.

So what is this discrete GPU itself? The second wafer is supposedly a 22nm SOI design featuring 2304 to 2560 stream processors as been rumored and based off the VI architecture.

Please. As awesome as this would be, I don't think MS intended on selling their console for $1k.

But if they stack a 300W chip and clock it down that would be the biggest waste the right question is:
Why the hell is that cooler so regular if this was the case.

Lol, not possible. Pairing a top of the line GPU that hasn't even been released on the desktop with 8 netbook class CPU cores and a DDR3 memory interface ? Not even console optimizations and direct to the metal programming and hUMA would be able to overcome the bottleneck. That's what I think. No. Besides, price wise, Microsoft already said they will not lose money on each console sold. Does anybody think that AMD would only receive the amount that has been spread around for such a powerful APU, and would Microsoft sell the console for the price they are asking ?

Oh, and they have already talked enough about the GPU to confirm it will have 768 cores, so the only possibility here is that they are Volcanic Islands cores, which could probably even the playing field against the PS4. But making a console takes validation time, this is a brand new design, there simply hasn't been time to do that.
