Why? Because Microsoft is a software company, who sells their consoles at a loss. This is a way to make money from the hardware later on, stay competitive for less money in the meantime, and allow the consumers to choose how much they want to pay. It also stimulates the PC gaming market which they're trying to gain a foothold in, and gives developers more freedom.

Win, win, win, win.

I'm quite sure they were hugely successful. N64 was a great success, to start, and huge titles like Perfect Dark and Conkers Bad Fur Day required it. Everyone I knew owned one.

Not sure if trolling or just delusional.

N64 was not a great success. N64 was a major factor in Nintendo's decline in the non-portable market. PlayStation sold triple the number of units, and not simply because it had a head start.

A handful of popular titles requiring the Expansion Pak did not help sales of those titles, or Nintendo 64; it hurt them. Games that came with the Expansion Pak were more expensive, and those that didn't come with it obviously required the purchase of another accessory to be used.

And I had an N64, Expansion Pak and all, too. I think I still do.

The only thing that has me thinking though is why is the chip so massive for a dinky CPU+GPU? It could possible they over engineered it but it doesn't make sense that it's so large
post #65 of 65
That is the stupidest thing I have read in my life.
