Is this price right? 7950 $180 after rebate?

This sounds like a killer deal, but whats the catch here? These are reference cards with stock cooler, but the savings could easily go to an after market cooler. Or I could strap on my old H50. Or should I wait for HD 9000s? It doesnt say its referbs and comes with 3 games. Almost seems too good to pass up. Thoughts?

EDIT: looks like there is no more sale or the price has been fixed.

EDIT2: looked the next day again and the sale is now back in, but at -$35 with $25 rebate as opposed to -$75 with $30 rebate the first time i saw the sale...guess i missed out on a great deal.

the catch is . . . you are right. you need to get an after market cooler. i used my spare 7970 stock cooler and some vrm heatsinks.

mine has unlocked voltages and uses hynix vram. does 1100/1575 stock voltage. haven't tried any higher see where stock volts will carry.

i knew all these before buying it.

OP stay away from that ref card. the cooler sucks. get a custom cooler design. sapphire dual x gets my vote. pcs+ is also good.

Just read the feedbacks. The majority of them have problems with the stock cooler. I suggest that you buy Sapphire.

basing your purchase on those comments is like basing it on WEI or tom's hardware. op, is doing the right thing by bringing it up to this kind of forum.

Seriously, I've no idea what's wrong with you. I'm just saying that the stock cooler isn't good and recommending Sapphire.

i have nothing against sapphire. i used to own one and it lasted me till i sold it. but most of them are locked and use elpidia for vram. those comments do not offer solutions. the main thing about buying these cheap 7950 is to find one with unlocked voltages and the cooling solution can be dealt with after.

I have to agree with you.Deciding on a purchase of a product based on the newegg reviews is pointless.Almost nobody with a perfectly working card is going to bother writing down a review while everybody with a problem will. For an example : MSI R7950 TF 3GD5 BE Radeon HD 7950
It has bad reviews.Does that mean that the famous MSI TF is bad? - NO!

hot, i am guilty of that. i thought my rebate was never gonna come. i posted some bad stuff in the review section for the product . . . after a few days, the rebate came. i had to post a follow up review to be fair. i know it was not right.
