But yes, hypothetically speaking, if the game wants 2600MiB for it's textures, for example, on the most demanding map with the highest texture quality, you would probably need to upgrade to a part with more VRAM in order for the absolute best experience possible.

Well put. biggrin.gif Going to start working some extra hours now... maybe if worse comes to worse ill upgrade to a really strong single card and if not ill just spend that money on something else then.

780 SLI sounds about right for what you're after. That or waiting for AMD's new Hawaii chips that might be available around BF4 release, those should be good for BF4 and more than likely better value for money than 780.

I'd love to try AMD but im using 120hz Lightboost right now. I think ill stay with NVidia. Thanks for the suggestion though! wink.gif

Would be about time that we exceed 2gb vram usage on 1080p,

with all the consoles having 5gb +- ''GPU'' memory its about time we PC users get some Very, Very High Quality Textures thumb.gif

Agreed. I own 2 670's in SLi at 1440p. with my monitor at 90hz. no problem.

Meh, my 5850 still treats me well, even with Crysis 2. I'll just play the game one tick mark away from max and keep it movin. thumb.gif

I'll still squeeze a couple of more years outta this rig.

Crysis 3 swallows up 2.5gb+ of vram on my 7950 in MP. I am not surprised at all with this 3gb recommendation. 660 ti 2GB will get you near max settings in Crysis 3 in MP and will throttle/crash if pushed to max settings. In my experience, I can recommend the 7950 3gb over a 660 ti 2gb anyday to max out Crysis 3 or BF4 (guessing it will use near 3GB also considering). I have a gtx 660 TI 3GB also and I recommend either that or the 7950. I think the TI 3gb was on-sale recently, confirm? Benchmarks mean nothing when your gpu can't max out a game with 2gb, yet another 3gb card does. I have a hp2210m monitor @ 1080p. Comments?

Here is a thread I started a few days ago.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1424464/vram-thread

Take a look at Bioshock Infinite. 3558 MB of Vram being used at Ultra settings. Now that is allocated vram usage and since my Titan has 6 available, the game utilizes as much as possible, but at the end of the day it helps.

Having 25-30fps was the sacrifice most of us made back then to see all the pretty graphics. Not only that but the motion blur (fairly new at the time) blurred out most of the choppiness that we would've typically noticed.

If you're worried about VRAM, just don't use 4xMSAA. Seriously, that eats like 500 megabytes of VRAM....

Recommended GPU's in BF3 were a 560 or HD 6950. Both of which cannot max BF3 out at 1080p 60 fps. Don't expect the 50% stronger 660 and 7870 to do so either. I'm guessing an overclocked 7970 is pushing it and a 780 should do so as well.
