Windows did not detect my secondary HDD, but it shows up under management

Thread Starter
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit on my Samsung SSD and then installed my brand new secondary HDD via SATA III port. I powered on my PC and got to the desktop, but I did not got a notification on the bottom right corner, next to the time and audio control, saying I have installed a HDD. . however, it was detected under "Disk Management" and I was able to format it.

Out of curiosity, why didn't I get a notification? It did in the previous install of Windows. Could it be the new Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers? I used the old drivers from my motherboard CD before, and this is the first time I used a new drivers off Intel website.

So it sounds like you got the hard drive working? You are now asking why you didn't get a pop-up message saying the hardware is available? I'm pretty sure that hard drives almost never display a pop up when they are newly installed, you usually have to go into disk management and get it setup, especially since it needed formatting. When a drive needs formatting windows is not going to show it as a drive until it's formatted. This is what I've experienced anyways.

^^ This.

Hard drives never display pop-ups when they are installed (you are probably getting confused with external hard drives). Secondary internal hard drives can only be used and recognised once they have been formatted using disc management.
