Compatibility issues between Case and PSU?? wat?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I've got a question

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1C3cf

A buddy and I are trying to come up with a ~$500 build and we've run into an odd compatibility issue. It says that the CASE and PSU don't work together. I've never heard of something like this before.. should he go ahead and buy it or swap out one of the other. The color blue is a must! (i think)

Also, does anyone have a different recommendation for a $50-60 motherboard? I think this is pretty good based on reviews and features. Plus two PCI-Es doesn't hurt either

But what's up with that case/psu?

Thanks for any info!

Perhaps the size of the PSU or the amount of space offered by the case?
Most ATX/M-ATX Mid towers would accommodate a normal sized PSU. That being said, you probably wouldn't be able to shove that PSU into some ITX or OEM slimline cases. Should be fine if you ask me.

Fit or not. Don't but a raidmax psu. They are very bad. Better buy a quality PSU instead of getting a chance to make the system blow up smile.gif

maybe the PSU was designed to be used as a top-mount unit so it has a short CPU auxiliary power cable and wont reach the top of the motherboard in a bottom-mount case. I had this with the last mid-tower bottom-mount case I built. Either that or the PSU is in a weird form factor with abnormal dimensions? Compare the dimensions of that PSU with another one that is not considered incompatible. If dimensions aren't the problem, I'd go ahead and order it along with a CPU AUX extension cable.

Also, I cant help but recommend getting a higher-quality PSU. I know it's temping to go with the cheapest PSU but Raidmax is widely considered to be not dependable and not reliable, and since a faulty PSU has the potential to fry all the other components of your PC, it really is worth it to spend a little extra on a trusted brand PSU. thumb.gif
