Dear Experts

I have got my work laptop (windows 7) that was configured to access a domain work.

When I log in to my laptop the username that was assigned to me is like that : country\d50001122,,,,,,,,made it up and password is : forum

When I am at home I want to backup my work from the laptop to a network drive on my home desktop computer (called storage1).

On my desktop computer I tried to create a username d50001122 ( I removed the country with slash) and with same domain password.

Then I enabled the sharing and the security on my home drive.

I tried from my laptop to access that drive but error message pops us :

You do not have permission to access \\homedesktop\storage1. Contact your network administrator to request access

Did i miss something ? is that error because of user is a domain user ?

Yes you did miss something,

So basically you have your domain at work which you called "country" and then you have your machine at home, what you will need to do is create your share and when you map the drive you want to do the following

Right click my computer

Map network drive

Put in \\homedesktop\storage1

Click use different username and password

Put in homedesktop\administrator and the password

Click finish.

that should map it fine, you need to remember that the user account on your desktop and the user account on your work laptop are going to have a different SSID assigned to them so you can't do things like this. It's basically a security thing.

You are specifying the your home desktop computer name aren't you, if you're not it'll try to authenticate with your work laptop admin account.

Hi compuman

Home desktop computer username is : ramy,,,,password is : jocky,,,,,,,,,ramy is member of administrater ,,,,,home computer is not part of any domain, it is standalone PC.

On Home desktop computer I created a username : d50001122 with password same as on my laptop's login (domain password).

On Home desktop computer I clicked on the drive which is called : Stoareg1 and I added the username d50001122 in the sharing tab and I added the username d50001122 in the security tab ( ticked options for full control ) .

From my laptop :

Run \\homedesktop\storage1 --> window pops up asking me for a username and a password :

Typed in : ramy and password jocky ,,,,,Is that right ?

Now I can see the storage1 on my latop but I can't access it

Hopefully I made it clear

Regards
