So I had a bit of a read around !
I also decided to spend up to €600 on the whole setup.
Right now I have 670 2GB OC.

To get 120Hz in BF4 at medium/high should I SLI/CFX:
1.) My 670? Will it be enough ? Or will the game suffer from not enough VRAM?

2.) 2x 7970GHz 3GB?

3.) 2x 7950GHz 3GB (is it more powerful than the 7970GHz)

4.) Wait for 2x R280X?

I can live without MSAA I would just use FXAA. So will I need 3GB VRAM?

Going for a single 780 doesnt seem to make sense, it's like €600.

I have never OCed a graphics card btw, but if it's not too difficult/cumbersome I could try it.

Any help appreciated!

which country are you from ? wait for the R9 290 series launch on oct 24th. 120 hz at high settings should be possible on a single R9 290 overclocked.the price is expected to be €400 - €450

1 780 isn't enough to get your fps to 120. I'm thinking about buying another 780 or seeing what the amd r9-290x can do.
My frames avg between 55-75 with 1 780 OC'd quite a bit.

From Germany, the R9 290 is currently listed with 2 models at €475-500. How come it would be able to deliver 120Hz if all the other single powerful cards can't ?

those are ultra setting with 4x MSAA. anyway here is BF4 at 1080p ultra, ultra 4x msaa

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Battlefield-4-PC-238749/Tests/Battlefield-4-Beta-Test-Grafikkarten-Benchmarks-1090869/

as i said high settings on an R9 290 OC (1.15 ghz) should be able to run at 100+ fps.

Do you know of a similar benchmark on a site that doesn't contain the word "games" in it? I cant access anything with "games" in the URL :/
This is really surprising. You think these tests can be seen as representative for the main game?

yeah thats BF4 beta . so it should be quite representative of performance in the game. there might be slight improvements with final release and drivers on game launch. but nothing drastic.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/battlefield-4-graphics-card-performance,3634-7.html

HD 7870 gets 60 fps at 1080p high. R9 290 is close to 1.9x performance of HD 7870 . so you will be running at 110+ fps in BF4 high settings 1080p.

Thanks for the links!

They are using different versions of the 7870 though, standard and 7870 GHz. so R9 290 should even be better right?
However I am wary of a single card since I dont think it would deliver maximum bang for buck. E.g. an R9 290 would cost €500 but 2x 7870GHz cost 2x€170=€340.
I mean can a single GPU ever beat 2 cards that cost in total the same as the single GPU?

What if I just SLI my 670 2GB? Or CFX some 7950 Boost? Would it give me 120Hz?

I would turn MSAA off and use FXAA instead, so VRAM shouldnt matter right?

Basically im looking for something that will give me 120Hz at high for the lowest price / within my budget smile.gif

the expected price of R9 290 is €400 - €450 . and definitely a R9 290 overclocked will get close to GTX 670 SLI or HD 7950 CF . you need to be wary of multi GPU issues as much as you worry about bang for buck. R9 290 will be the bang for buck high end card. massive 4GB VRAM. 64 ROPs. this is a beast of a GPU. wait for reviews and then decide. thumb.gif
