OC Noob needs help (Sapphire 7970 OC)

Hello Overclockers,

I just gotten my new rig Jan this year and basically came over from Xbox to PC gaming. I did game on the PC before i got my new rig but i am still pretty new to PC parts & stuffs.

My card features a dual bios, assuming that this is the boost settings, how do i enable it? My clocks are now 950/1425 and voltage at 1.025v. Googled up and found out that it was another BIOS (non-boost state). And the boost settings are at 1000/1425. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Essentially, i need help with overclocking my card. But have no idea what to do.

Any tips or guide to teach an oc virgin like me?

Thanks,
fld

Welcome to the site- Download a free program called Msi afterburner 1st, then slowly Increase gpu core 5-10 mhz at a time then do a test with either a game or-Furmark......Be careful with Furmark tough~ Anyway when you see Artifacts across your screen, screen tearing and so forth you know uve reached the cards limits, at that point you can Increase Voltage a tad- By 1 point or so......Then you do the same thing with the memory, increase then test!~
Msi Afterburner is a Gpu overclocking tool- You need to get this 1st, Then download another free program called Furmark its a gpu stress test that simulates hardcore 3d I wanna say,its supposed to stress your card they say like no game can?!.... If you dont like Afterburner you can Overclock directly from your Amd Catalyst Control Center-Same method applies. thumb.gif

Thanks a lot! But can you explain to me the Dual BIOS settings? I switched to the second BIOS but noticed no difference to the clock speeds.

Also, i already experienced screen tearing. What should i do now? Bump the stock speeds down? redface.gif

Id love to man but I personally have 2 Radeon 6970s those dont have Boost clock the way your card does!~ Iam not exactly sure if you want boost disabled or enabled to benafit you more.
Iam pretty sure somone with a 7970 will post something soon, sorry I dont wanna comment on something iam not POSITIVE about. There is a guy here that had 4 7970s I think his name is TSM 106 or something like that, this guys like the Guru of 7970s I hope he will see this thread hehehe.

Lots of thanks!! Also, GPU-Z says that is is running at the boost clocks.

But CCC on the other hands says that it is not.

This is odd... rolleyes.gif

(EDIT: It went to 1000/1450 after a reset with MSI AB.)

Put your Power-control setting to +20%!.............. Then add about 25 mhz on the Gpu-core- Dude you have ALOT of room to overclock your card, those are stock settings I wanna say~ Iam like all smiles over here when i saw these pics lol, I wanna oc it for you dammit!~ Id get that card up to 1.2 ghz core and 1500 mhz memory dammit! Just keep an eye on your temps ok? Try not to stay in the 80s or 90s for to long!............ Set your fan profile to around lets say 65% _ 75% and leave it that way for gaming. thumb.gif

Heres what you wanna test with to get a Ruff base Score what your cards getting

Hahaha:D:D:D

Do you know of the stock voltage for this card?? 1025 doesn't seem to be the case. If anyone reads this, can you please give me a confirm? thumb.gif

That sounds about right Chief- Can you tell me where are you getting the Voltage reading from? My cards for example are 1150-1175 mv

You need to raise Voltage if you plan to overclock- But its not Required, There schould be an option under afterburner that says Force Voltage- I would check that and try and raise it a few points! But for sure your card schould be able to pass 1ghz on the gpu core and up to 1700 mhz memory ive seen some SICK overclocks on these monsters, makes me wanna go out and buy a few myself lol.
