Supermicro Server help.

Thread Starter
So I found this place near my home town where they sell refurbished server. So I asked them if they had any Supermicro servers. And they had some for almost 200 and then they had a $75 buck 1U server for the LGA771 but it didn't come with HDD, CPU, or Memory, but the motherboard that they purposed took DDR2 but the different revisions of the board could only take either Dual or Single ranked ECC memory. So I decided to go a little higher. I found that they had a server for $150 that had 2 Quad Core Xeons clocked at 2.33, 8GB RAM, and 160GB HDD. Also looked at the board and it was a X7DVL-I motherboard that supports FBDIMM's looked it up on amazon and there pretty cheap. But from the looks of it I would only use 4-8GB but it's good to know that there pretty cheap par say. That being said the purpose for this 1U server is using it as a "Controller" for the other servers I have, I will also be using this as a very light folding platform. So is it worth getting this $150 one? Does the cost justify the useage? Thanks.

That's not too bad, It hink I paid 200-300 for a 1U supermicro with only a 160gn hdd, 8gb of ram and 2x Xeon Quad Cores at around 2.3ghz or so, this was almost 2 years ago. You'll get decent folding on it but you can run all types of stuff on it with that processing power even though its a bit dated. try to talk them down because if you upgrade that ecc ram it is very expensive, even today!
