Quick question on i5-4670k frequency UPDATE

Thread Starter
Hi. Are these settings ok? The default cpu clock was 3.4GHz and I wanted to overclock but I was too lazy to read the walls of text so I used a simple procedure. Just Disabled Turbo, power saving featurs and set Vcore to 1.2V and CPU to 4.2GHz. Here's a SS.

Is it ok as it is? Or do I need to do some more minor tweakings? Tho I tried to use 1.22V @4.5GHz but wouldn't boot so I just went back to 4.2GHz. I think its more than OK for gaming+browsing the net, right? smile.gif

UPDATE:
Ok so i wasn't responding much here cause I was busy. Had some spare time today so i was messing around a bit. The lowest voltage at 4.2GHz and vrin at Auto I could boot into Windows 8 was 1.14Vcore, but after 10 minutes of Prime95 my PC crashed. Then i increased Vcore to 1.15V and my PC survived about 40-50 mins of Prime95, tho I don't know if the crash was cused by me cause when I opened a browser it instantly crashed. So maybe it was me? Also any tricks to increase stability? I don't really want to increase my Vcore to higher frown.gif

Well i tried again Prime95 at 1.15Vcore and worker #3 stopped working after 30 minutes. What does that mean?

Bit high voltage for 4.2ghz especially without tweaking, stress testing etc

If you want a quick profile, set 1.25vcore, 1.76vrin, vrin llc extreme, manually set uncore ratio to 34x (not 35x) and see what multiplier you can do with it, probably 4.5 +- 0.2 depending on the chip. Will be plenty plenty cool with i5, drp2 in non-avx stress tests and any real load

Turn the power saving and turbo back on, there's no reason to disable it, it works just fine with overclocking.

Ah. Thought voltage is fine. I guess I'll try to down it as most as possible. Haven't tried to lower voltage at 4.2. I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback.

With the quick settings i set up my pc crashed. So I'm trying out your suggestion now, Cyro999. Btw my temps at idle are 30 degrees Celsius +/- and at full load 55-59 max. Also by overclocking my temps have increased only a little bit so I think my heatsink is good enough smile.gif

What crashes and what CPU multipliers did you try?

My PC. Well I set everything to what you said. uncore was already by default at x34 and i changed the cpu multiplier to 42 so i get 4.2GHz. Also I still have 1.2v Vcore... maybe that's causing the random crashes? Should I lower it?

Edit: For now I don't see the point of trying higher frequencies. There's just no need for it. For gaming its enough.

Uncore was 35x by default, no? 35x turbo's to 39x, so you don't want it set. Also, i said 1.25vcore to match up with the vrin and see what you could do on that, if you find you can only do like 4.2 or 4.3ghz on it, you can decide what you want to do then

But i turned off turbo. So maybe that's why by default it was x34. By how much should I decrease the settings you told me to match 4.2GHz?
