AMD's problems are their own. They had the performance lead at one time. Should I give you a history lesson on why they blew that opportunity? I could go in depth on this.
The fault is theirs. Their management. Their prior CEOs. If you don't think AMD had catastrophic business decisions in the past 10 years, you're the one that is hilarious. What AMD's CEOs have done in the prior 10 years are lessons in how to not run a corporation. Would you like me to detail what happened? Probably not. You know i'm telling the truth. AMD Blew their chance because their management has SUCKED. But they didn't resort to pathetic excuses and conspiracy theories during the Athlon days, they just put up and shut up. Now all they can do is throw out excuses. It's pathetic really.
It boils down to this. To earn money in the chip business, you need money. For R+D. AMD once had money, guess what their prior CEOs did? Blew it. Now they have NO MONEY to spend on research and development, so it is hardly surprising that they are in their current situation. It isn't because of Intel. It is because their prior business decisions over the past 10 years have been shockingly bad. Now they don't have the money to invest into R+D, which is necessary for compelling products.
This may sound anti AMD here, but i'm really not. I would love for AMD to produce a killer chip - I would buy it. But don't make this something it isn't. AMD's problems are in most ways their own, and that is unfortunate. I would love for them to release another Athlon level chip - but I don't think it's happening anytime soon. At least their GPUs are still respectable as I said, though.Edited by xoleras - 9/13/13 at 4:57am
