SP2 is a series of patches. You can install these on Home edition. I don't know where Professional comes into the picture, but it's not much different than Home, except for Remote Desktop, etc...

The only thing Pro has over Home is the extra security options for networks....that and a pretty blue box.

You mean, "What is the difference between XP Home and XP Professional."

Other than listing what each one has, I'll rather list what Professional gives you in addition to what Home already has.

• Domain capabilities
• Complex file sharing (Home has this too, just gotta install a nifty app)
• Complex user permissions \\ access controls
• Remote access capabilities
• IIS capabilities (Can host a website from your system)
• Two way processor support
• File Encryption
• Roaming profile management
• Remote installation capabilities
• More control over your OS configuration / options

In my opinion, if you don't see a reason to get pro yet, it's better to have pro and need those options later than to buy home and hit a brick wall. Options = Good!

I used to install Media Center for the energy blue bar and just disable all the MC crap. I use visualstyles now, so it doesn't matter. I couldn't find my xp pro sp2 cd so I installed media center this time.

SP2 Is just a Service packs full of Fixes for bothe HOME and PRO.

Pro is generally better than Home as you have a wider variety of Admin tools which allows for better OS mangement in the long run. Also PRO From what I know Deals with the USE of dual cpu's much better than Home...Infact home cant i think.

Yeah Home is limited to 1 Physical CPU. It will make use of a Dual Core CPU tho.

In addition to the other stuff said above.. XP Pro comes equiped to handle 1-2 Physical CPU's out of the box. I havent used Home before, But XP Pro SP2 seems to be the most stable Windows you can get.

the only big dfference i can recall between home and professional is u can use gpedit.msc in windows home, but then again not many people use that anyway.
