Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (who has played it?) - Page 2

Finished the game now, it's only 5-6 hours long. My review is here, but essentially all the devs wanted to do was make an interesting story, like Dear Esther. It's not really scary or tense at all. It's a good bargain bin buy.

Nope, instead people are waiting for its new assets to be ported into the SDK so they can use them for new types of custom stories. Decent looking outdoor areas and piggy enemies will add some life to the modding scene.

Been playing it the past couple hours and I must say I'm disappointed. I would still definitely recommend the game to everyone though. I only mean I'm disappointed because of all the hype the game was getting. I remember back when it was first announced, right after the ARG. And the devs made it out to be the scare of the century, saying it would blow the first one away, that the playthrough's of people screaming their lungs out would out-number those of the original Amnesia's, etc... But I can tell you this- although I don't find it anywhere near as "horror-y" as the first one, it's definitely creepy as hell and has a great story. No reason not to get it, it's just not the horror-fest it was originally made out to be.
And I know no company is going to say that their new product isn't as good as the old one, but still. Frictional Games is a smaller group of guys, stayed in touch with the community, relied on that community since they weren't exactly the big-budget marketing type...so when they get a good large fan base with Amnesia, I didn't expect them fall so short on all of their claims. Was truly hoping they would deliver. It is a good game, but it's no Amnesia TDD or Penumbra Black Plague. Maybe their next horror game, done without TheChineseRoom, will be what I'm looking for (although I remember hearing FG's next game won't be horror tiredsmiley.gif).

Now Outlast on the other hand...damn aaskull.gif

Is it just me recalling incorrectly, or was that the way it was? Anyone else frequent FG's forum back then when the ARG was going on and news about A Machine for Pigs started to slowly trickle out? I remember interviews by TheChineseRoom and FG, comments, etc., all about how it was going to be insane. And it can't even live up to the first one. I don't think I like this one bit.

I was thinking of playing it but I haven't finished Dark descent yet. Can't seem to get interested in that game...
