overclocking 95w cpu on 3+1 phase motherboard

Thread Starter
I have a Biostar A770e3 I bought a long time ago that was rated as 95w. However, the manufacturer changed the 95w TDP to maximum of 125w TDP for the CPU. It is a 3+1 phase motherboard.

I would like to overclock a AMD Phenom x945 3.0 GHZ to maybe 3.6 or so Ghz. I plan to get a good CPU cooler so that shouldn't be an issue.

Some questions:

1. Do I need the BIOS update to improve safety for overclocking a 95w, or does it just grant compatability with 125w cpu's?

2. Apparently 3+1 phase are unsafe at 125 watts even though biostar said it's okay. However, I read that the main risk of overclocking is mosfet overheating. Therefore, if I apply mosfet cooling/heatsinks to the mosfets, would it be safe to overclock a 95w cpu on this motherboard?

I used to do this when I first started getting into overclocking. Several motherboards and cpu later, I learned to just buy a board designed with beefy VRMS.

I would just buy a new board and then sell your current one and get a few bucks back.

OR better yet, time for an upgrade!
