General question about closed back gaming headsets....

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask a general question to gamers using closed back headsets for stuff like vent, skype, teamspeak, etc. while gaming....

I just purchased the Corsair Vengeance 1500 7.1 USB headset for this purpose and have found that due to the closed back design I can't hear myself talking. Well, I can hear myself in my head, but it's like you would hear yourself talking if you had a really bad cold or your ears were stopped up. This headset does have a mic loopback function that works but the volume is way too low so it's almost like there is no loopback.

Is this the norm in using closed back headsets for gaming? Do you just deal with not being able to hear yourself very well? Is there a low latency work around ( I have tried monitoring the mic through the windows software and it works but on a 1 sec delay... which is worse than not hearing myself)?

This is the first set of closed back gaming headphones I have worked with. I switched from a much more complex set up that used closed back headphones but I could easily adjust the in ear monitoring/mic loopback levels so i could hear myself (switched from using a Presonus Firepod and Sure sm58 so I could free it up for my home studio).

Just wanting to know if this is normal for this type of headset or if I should return these headphones for a set with better mic loopback/monitoring.

thanks
