Oh yes, since christmas eve I have been tinkering, toying, editing, fixing, breaking, and building this half new computer of mine. lol

Heres some progress shots thus far.

it started here, with my free Tt case and the ASUS with a venice in it, overclocked to 2.6gHz. Now its retired to 24/7 folding while the opty is the new hotness.

this build sponsored by Sam Adams, Rolling Rock, and snapple peach tea

Opteron Goodness

I found this rather amusing, apparently the DFI board is equipped with JAPANESE CAPS! which as you should know, means this motherboard is JDM tyte, giving me +20 horsepowers.

here is my car, a key part of this build, it got me to and from home, FRY's, gfs house, and my friend's apartment to gather all the supplies necessary (mostly the booze now that I think about it)

Heres the back of the works, the mobo boxes filled with random parts, baggies strewn about with hardware, and the acer 19'' monitor which I love so dearly (even though it lacks DVI support)

Heres the rig as it sits right now, cabling is a mess, case is hewn apart, screws everywhere, but atleast the lapped acfreezer64pro is a top the opty well, idle of 30-33C, ambient holds 23-26C, so I think that is pretty damn good ^.^

My super spiffy corsair XMS refuses to work as of now (needs moar BIOS flashing, I know) unless there is only one, in the orange slot.

The FULL number for both of these modules is as follows:
CMX512 - 3200C2PRO XMS3202v4.1 - 0511120-2, I havent found out just which chips they use yet, but I love them nonetheless

looks pathetic, eh? lets hope I get it sorted out in time for the new year

fixing windows after a genius move to try out x64... then apply the dual core fix INCORRECTLY. whoops -.- I didnt backup either, so I may have just really made a lot of work for myself

am I 1337 yet, an entire counter-top filled with PC parts and my laptop ^.^

Stay tuned mofos, stay tuned

Here we go, no more erroring in prime95 (altered the mem timings ever so slightly, who would have though I couldnt run 00 Tras with this RAM, lol)

and my new mouse, the Logitech LX7 wireless. I love it, tracks like a dream, and its shiny too.

And here is the new wire management, I did it MUCH better this time, but alas Im going to have to take this thing apart at least one more time. Once to replace the plastic backing to the mounting bracket, and to put the evercool chipset cooler in place of the ungodly loud DFI piece, this thing is such a POS (and the chipset runs between 43-47C while the processor peaks at almost 44C, how sad)

You spoke about your ram only working with one stick in. This does happen fairly often.

The best and safest way to flash you bios is to use Tmods disc:
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22031

Simply burn that onto a disc (he has instructions) and boot from cd. Then all you need to do is select your mobo then what bios you want to run.

I just used this 10 mins ago to flash to the OCZ Tonys bios and it worked like a dream.

Fury

EDIT: Also find some timings for your ram online. DFI's like it when you put the timings in manually.

Oh well yes, I have 2 copies of the tmods CD, I havent got around to the BIOS yet, Ive got bigger problems ATM, but rest assured before `07 is upon us both video cards AND both RAM modules will be in there and be overclocked.

But thank you muchly for looking out for me. I have not yet found the perfect BIOS for this RAM (nor the perfect timings either), but Ive got 4 tabs open with DFIstreet threads, 2 OCN threads, 2 DFI website tabs, and even 3 AMD website tabs all open on my laptop ready to assist my newb-ass when I mess something up XD (I didnt know exactly what I was getting into with this motherboard named 'expert', but thanks to the internet I've got a bit of a chance of doing this right)

EDIT: Oh oh, one question I do have, what does the tony's OCZ BIOS have altered, and is it only for use with OCZ RAM, or does it work well for other RAM as well?

No not just for OCZ ram. He has tweaked it to make it more friendly at first boot. IE no splash screen and he has put all the settings as they should be to get it working straight off. Many people believe it has allowed an extra overclock and it is alot more RAM friendly.

Prob a good idea to email corsair or post on dfi street and ask for timings.

Have you applied all the dual core optimizer hotfixes?
Make sure you get those timings sorted because for me a rounding error links directly back to the ram. Also put 1.35v though the opty with an above of 104%.

What volts does you ram need to run at?

Take a look at this. Its from the dfi overclocking guide:
