I believe the RAM is spec`d to run 2.8vdimm, but Ive got it running 2.85v just in case. I still havent played with the voltage for the opteron, nor anything but the RAM timings (although they ARE very tight, so I should loosen them just a bit)

Im also going to have to redo the dual core optimizer things, because I corrupted my windows install last time I tried to apply the winxp dual core hotfix -- so Ill try and not screw that up this time around. (I was a bit drunk at the time, admittedly, messing with windows registry entries wasn't the best idea)

But Ive recovered from that most grievious of errors and I got windows booted into safe mode, fixed my drivers, and its all good (aside from the dual core dealy) it keeps popping up a 'Are you sureyou want to install this device, it is not recommended by windows' dialog box mentioning an "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" and then when I say continue anyways it says it could not install the device (obviously), so I know the dual core hotfix (and optimizer from AMD website) are both not working correctly at all. Curiously though, it shows 2 cores in the windows task manager's performance area.

So when I get home tonight (Im at work today ) Ill get cranking on the dual core hotfix and optimizer (and do it right this time, no drinks `till that is done, haha)

I can not believe my eyes here folks, the windows dual core hotfix actually improved performance.

I scored higher in every everest benchmark except I lost about 2ns in memory latency, weird...

Im thoroughly pleased.
click the links for the FULL reports

for anyone too lazy to read through, here are the important scores:
(DDR400 @ 2-2-2-5-1T)
BEFORE:
Mem Read - 5980 MB/s
Mem Write - 5138 MB/s
Mem Copy - 5400 MB/s
Mem Latency - 46.8 ns

Here we go, late night/early morning benchmarking on the way.

Ive got both PCI-e slots at 8x
Ive got both xfx6600GTs clocked to 500/1000 (stock)
Ive got both loaded with XtremeG 91.45 drivers
Stock clock on the opty, 2-2-2-5-1T on the ram, as tight of settings as the modules would muster with DDR400 speeds.
Dual core fix and optimizer are go

Everything seems to be in order, so now I get to do stock clocks and overclocked for these drivers than compare scores to 92.91 drivers. (I wont bother using nividia stock drivers as I already know these drivers perform better from previous experiments)

Good man...Guess I got lucky with my DFI/X2 combo...sounds like it has been putting you through the wringer...

Thanks to the Fury for some tips I can steal off this thread to make myself look smart!

Good luck with that Expert (RAM timings still make me nervous--especially all the ones on my DFI board that I never head of before...) I'll be watching this thread.

Here we go, same settigns as before, but both 6600GT cards are clocked to 550/1100 with rivatuner, max temps hit 70C for the top card and 67C for the bottom card, top card idle is 48C and bottom card idle is 40C

3DMark05 http://rigshowcase.com/img/376rYYKT/8463.jpg

A couple more shots, 570/1140 [ http://rigshowcase.com/img/376rYYKT/8467.jpg ] and 570/1160 [ http://rigshowcase.com/img/376rYYKT/8468.jpg ] (it artifacts at anything higher than that - vmod time methinks, peak temps still sitting pretty around 70-72C top and 67-69C bottom.

^^ Hells yea, my GF went straight to new egg to get me this Opteron, and I tell her I love her 3 times daily, no joke XD

Its been an awesome christmas and an even better new year.

EDIT: small update, memtesting at DDR500 (278x9 yielding 2500mHz on the opty, stock volts) @ 2.5-3-3-7-1T 2.74vDIMM - stable thus far, will superpi32 and proceed to DDR550 and beyond.

Nice man. The GFs are always great to have around when they support the OCing/Gaming. Mine helped me pay for the Opty i ordered since my 3800+ decided not to play nice with my HSF anymore.

Holy Jesus, after reading up MORE on RAM timings, Ive got this thing running 2500mHz at stock volts (obviously, man I love opterons) HTT is at 1111 (278x4) and I over-volted it a bit just to be on the safe? side. It seems good, but Id feel better if it were at an even 1000, but that will come in due time.

The full RAM timings: (I followed this guide - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=57317 for TCCD RAM, and I must say its amazingly accurate so far)

CAS Latency (CL)2.5T
RAS To CAS Delay (tRCD)3T
RAS Precharge (tRP)3T
RAS Active Time (tRAS)6T
Row Cycle Time (tRC)9T
Row Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC)12T
