Overclocking will help you a little bit with gaming; and i guess maybe if youre doing other stuff line video rendering or doing autoCAD or something that may be CPU intensive; then yes.
For gaming though; as long as you have a quad core you should be relatively fine. Overclocking will help push some minimum fps and probably help push some extra juice in your CPU but its nothing dramatic compared to upgrading your GPU. (most of your FPS gains will come from that).
Unless if you have a dual core CPU then i would highly recommend to any person in that case; to upgrade to a quad core. As a weak CPU can bottleneck the true potential of a graphics card when it is too weak for the game.
If youre just trying to save money and get by with a build you dont have to overclock. Overclocking brings heat; and you have to buy a better cooler to account for the extra heat from overclocking. So unless you can afford it; you dont NEED it..... but its a nice addition gamers like to use.
If i were you though; if the difference is only 15-20 or something.... id get the unlocked one "K" CPU and then just OC later on in the future when you can afford the cooling. That way you dont have to buy a completely NEW unlocked CPU the day you ever decide to start overclocking.
