Question About A Build?

Thread Starter
I'm building a start PC for a friend of mine for $375 (mostly spare parts). He is look to play some games. Mainly WOW, Any and All Total War games and maybe some BF3/4. He not sure is he going to play BF3/4 on this PC. He is planning on upgrade the the CPU (FX-6350 or FX-8320), 4gb more ram and maybe the video card (HD7950 with boost) in about a month and I will be buying the CPU and video card back to help him out with the upgrades.
Now here is the question.
Can this rig handle it for about a month on medium to high setting.? I know it can handle WOW with ease, but I really don't know about Total War games and BF3/4.
Rig
CPU : Phenom II x2 555 OC @ 4.0ghz
CPU Cooler : Corsair H80
Mobo : AsRock 990FX Extreme 4
Video Card : HD6870 1 gb
Ram : 4gb DDR31866 (9-10-9-24-1T)
HDD : SSD 120gb
PSU : Rosewill Green Series RG630-S12 630W
Case : Antec VSK-4000 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer

EDIT
Forgot the Monitor. 32 TV that is not true HD.

With 2GB of ram, he would be hard pressed to play just about anything. That's an extremely low amount. I'd recommend he goes for 4GB to start out.

Then, since he is on 720P, he should be able to play those games, at least on lower-mid settings with no AA.

Sorry I meant 4Gb and I changed it.

Then I say he would be fine. I'd also say unless you are going to be buying back the parts at the same price, he might as well wait. He could invest that in more or better parts.

If you are going to buy them back at price then he might as well go for it. If he can only play on medium or low settings, at least he can play. I'd say it should be able to play at least medium settings, though.

Just as jameyscott replied imo 2GB of RAM is walking on thin ice, other than that the build looks solid (w/ the 63XX & 7950 as you stated he was getting), what RAM will he be upgrading to? If he's looking for some cheap standard gaming RAM (8GB 1600MHz CL9) I'd recommend Team Vulcan RAM, dirt cheap and has ran solid in a customers build, have reviewed the company as well and seems like they're solid, here's a thread w/ some others view as well (nothing crazy just helps with the iffyness of trying a new face of RAM:D ).

In regards to him playing BF3 w/ the current PII/6870 idk... as I'm sure you know BF3 scales w/ moar coars>.< & I'm sure the 1gb 256bit bus GPU isn't all too crazy but imo it should get him a solid 40+ FPS in a 720p monitor w/ Medium settings (I haven't played the game but just from knowing how others talk about it I'm passing what they have said). Best of luck and let us know how BF3 runs!=D Quite curious as I'm rocking a PII 965 OC'd to 4.05GHz.

I'm going to buy them back for around $125. He wants a better PC then the old Mac (Dual 2.0ghz) he is on now. It can only WOW at low setting and lags on a Total War game he has now.

If he can't wait, he can't wait. If he has waited this long though, he might as well go ahead and use that money towards his computer for better performance over all versus a performance gain now.

If he is absolutely dead set on doing this, I think he'll be fine. I personally would wait in his situation though.

It is setup for me to order the extra parts I need on Monday. I am just checking to make sure. I may set him up with a Phemon II 1090T. I have time to make up my mind too by Monday. I know the 1090T will be better. But for $375 is a good deal for the Phenom II x2 555 , etc too.

There are some very good deals in the marketplace, but your build looks good. I heard total war likes intel though. Hey I can trade or sell you an hd monitor for cheap to help your cause. Pm me if interested.
