I think it's mainly the core parking in Windows that makes games terrible on 6 core CPUs with HT on.  On my 3930k rig, BL2 would play like crap, well still does because its a terrible port, but it runs better with core parking turned off.

I did some more research and I have come to the conclusion that getting another gtx780 would do a lot more for me than a 6 core processor.
Its just so expensive for a 6 core processor and I have not seen any real proof that it would make a difference over a quad core i5 or i7 (at least for one or two cards).

Good choice.  Another 780 will net you a LOT more FPS than going from a quad core to a hex core.

While extra pcie lanes of X79 won't matter for a single gpu, the extra cores could make a difference depending on the game. Time well tell how the trend will go with games and mutli-threading. Crysis3 uses 6 cores but not much else so far. I'd be willing to gamble that games will get more multi-threaded. Single cores haven't been getting much faster from generation to generation (but the size is shrinking and power consumption is decreasing). For developers, the best way to acheive higher performance is to use more cores. I wonder when intel will start making mainstream hexacore processors?

I'd rather have more cores than the igpu, thats for sure.
