Is this the sound of impending doom?

An old Seagate hard drive of mine (ST3500630SV):

Turn up the volume and make sure you listen right to the end. That spin down doesn't sound too healthy, and spin up seems to take a long time too. This drive has been out of earshot in a server for so long that I can't remember what it used to sound like. After a period in storage, I was thinking of recommissioning it, but now I'm not sure.

This is it seeking:

^Sounds normal enough.

I would say dont take the risk with your data for a 500gb drive :s it doesnt sound good mate, whether thats because its just old and therefore loud or because it is screwed is mostly irrelevant, at best you will waste hours setting up a computer operating system and at worst you will lose some valuable irreplaceable data.

Its old and 500gb tongue.gif let it die in peace

Looks normal to me. I have a WD green that makes the same noise when it starts up. Its running fine. The click you hear at the end while its spinning down is the heads parking. Your drives health also is in a good shape. I wouldn't worry too much.

It's not the click that concerned me, but the dragging sound after the click. All my drives have a little bit of that (presumably the heads dragging on the platter, but this one has a bit more rasp to it. Similarly with the starting noise, all my drives do it, but this one is the longest I have hears and sounds a little 'off'.
