As far as cpu overclocking it is a tough call, for daily clocks most boards are capable & the overclock depends more on temps & the cpu itself. The board stands out more with extreme overclocking & cooling, if extreme coolers get another 100 - 200mhz out of cpus it might not be the same for air & water cooling.
My r4e with a 3930k extreme cooled does get 100Mhz more than my x79 gd65 with the same cpus, it just allows 1 more bump on the cpu ratio. Water cooled the cpu tops out at the same place for temps on both boards so the OC is the same. The r4e can be nicer for memory overclocking as well, it likes PSC based sticks more than the MSI, although it only makes a difference going from 2133 to 2400Mhz with certain ICs.
