Graphics upgrade

Thread Starter
Okay I want to upgrade my graphics, and I was thinking of doing this:

x1950xt (256mb) $250 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102067

+

DFI Lanparty $60 : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136165

I only have about this much money, so I wouldn't be able to get anything more expensive.

My current motherboard is AGP only, so if i get a PCI-E card I will need the new mobo.

Other options I can think of would be getting an ATi Brand x1800xt 512mb for $240, or just getting an AGP 256mb x1950pro for $240 and keeping my motherboard.

So would the x1950xt be the best idea for a graphics upgrade? Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Ya unless you want to get DX10 that's the best you can do.

Yeah, I'm thinking dx10 won't be that much better unless I get a new CPU.

Does anyone know how much better the x1950xt would be over the x1950 pro ?

It depends what resolution you want to play games at. The mos i can do is 1290x1024. Had this card for a day only but it is awesome for that. Playing oblivion smooth as silk and CS:Source with 4x AA and 16 AF. If you're playing stuff at 1600x1200 I would say go with the X1950XT 256MB. Definitely not the 512MB X1800XT.

EDIT: Did some quick research via toms hardware. X1800 512 and X1950PRO about the same. Go figure...

Yeah I like 1600x1200 res

Okay I orderd the x1950xt and the DFI lanparty with hopes I can crossfire it a few months down the road.

I can't quite remember, but if I got a x1900 Crossfire edition it would work too right?
