[WCCF] AMD Kaveri APU Arriving For Desktop PCs in Q4 2013 - Page 13

7750 ddr3 is with a 128bit wide memory bus.
Theres some suggestions that Kaveri will be quad channel, which would mean really high clocked ddr3 isn't as important. With Kaveri's refresh (carrizo) supposedly supporting ddr4, and ddr4's single stick/channel layout, quad channel isn't completely unreasonable. Actually, its makes a lot of sense in that an apu has both cpu+gpu bandwidths simultaneously to consider, and gpu's the size of kaveri's would get their own 128bit wide bus.

Carrizo is the Kaveri refresh? I thought the reports said Carrizo was the next Excavator APU? Hmm. I guess Carrizo being the refresh would make more sense though, since we don't know anything about Excavator besides the expected 15% perf/watt improvements. It's possible that Carrizo would have a dual-IMC with support for DDR3 & DDR4.

I don't believe there are any FM2+ boards that support quad-channel DDR3. Everything points to it still be dual-channel only, which means that memory bandwidth bottleneck will still be an issue. OC'd RAM will help, and if it natively supports 2400 DIMM's, it's possible that the improved mem controller will allow higher RAM overclocks as well.

Know what - I read successor and assumed refresh. Could be either, but refresh seems to be AMD's better flavor as of late. (BD to PD, Trinity to Richland).
GB boards all say dual-channel. So its probably unlikely that Kaveri is QC. Thanks for bursting my delusional bubble.
I was really hoping it was quad channel, since AMD was already behind in mem bandwidth compared to DC intel's. But that also means theres room for AMD to improve the mem bandwidth even while staying with DC.

Quad channel ram would Definatlly help with the IGP, that's for sure, It would be a massive improvement.

Huh. Might grab one to replace my aging phenom II 940 system. See if i can try and get a smaller case while i'm at it so my bedside machine is truly a SFF computer.
