Anyway, seems like I've been hearing this for at least a couple of years now. Is it definitely authentic this time?

As far as the Voyager's instruments can tell...it can't pickup any of the gas cloud bubble that is around the sun. I am sure it still bumping into a atom of hydrogen every now and then yet, but nothing that it can measure. This was the voyager team's criteria for leaving the solar system. Before now they just saw changes in magnetic fields and other interesting things, but were still picking up traces of the heliosphere.

So yeah, we shouldn't see any more news stories on the voyager has left the solar system. Though we will be getting data from it for a long while yet....it just shouldn't have much to say. If it does I think it will be pretty big news though.

Heh, if I took Voyager and put it in my back yard it would have all the problems that your cell phone does. obstructions degrade a radio signal more than anything else and right now it has 12 billion miles of near vacuum between the two dishes and it uses the frequency that is effected by the atmosphere the least. So the signal is actually pretty clear...though it takes a very large, sensitive dish to pick it up since it is rather weak.

Also, as Blameless pointed out, we have sent out radio signals way further and covering a much larger volume of space than one little probe.

I also believe that any civilization advanced enough to find and reach us would have no particular desire to enslave or harm us - we quite literally would have nothing that they would need. Land, resources, labour - a race capable of interstellar travel would have had to have solved all of those problems already.

This. 100% this.
