It could be better, but I doubt we will ever see a huge FPS increase, such as an additional 20FPS for my rig. Though I wish...
Wrong. This game is just poorly coded. As others have pointed out take a look at the forums and those overviewing code.
Secondly, when Shogun 2 looks as good as it does compared to Total War 2, and it runs much more smoothly, then it's a sign of another problem.
Rome 2, in it's current state, is not something I would recommend to anyone. They have a huge amount to fix and work on. They mislead people as well. Just look at their pre-alpha videos and nothing we have played looks remotely like that. Add in game breakers (blockaded cities and inability to take that city), gltiches, pathing issues (the orgy battles turn into), inability to stay in formation, some rather poor and bland graphics, stripped menus/trees, enemy AI is a joke, and not to mention the horrible inclusion of flags as ways to win a battle. The flag system completely derails any realism in strategy. Add in the poor AI and pathing issues and tactics are dumbed down.
I have been a Total War fan sense the original Rome Total War (and play the original Medieval as well). I played not only due to the experience (speeches, character, setting), but because I don't always desire an RTS where it is very unrealistic. I wanted something as realistic and historically accurate as possible. So this series was fairly close. Add in some mods and it was another step up. Rome 2 is currently a glimmer of hope, but the turd needs some major polish.
