So I know there happens to be "full-featured" commercial technology available for this - but I was thinking of purchasing a few rPi's, tossing RaspyFi (Raspian based distro with audio in mind, custom audio oriented kernel etc..) on one of them, and setting up pulse listener client nodes with the rest, hooking them up to audio equipment around the home. Is this feasible? I mean, I really don't have the time for it right now, but I will eventually - things should start easing up at work in the next couple of months, and I should have more leisure time to fiddle with stuff again. But it isn't unreasonable is it?
Anybody have any pointers here - is there some go-to tech out there that gets this job done easily for a reasonable price?
Basically I'd like the option of myself (or my roommate) to start listening to Pandora or our huge FLAC collection - and toggle it over to whole-home playback for entertaining, parties, or just cleaning up the place.
